Further adjustments included moving the Malus slightly further from the gate, removing an old, wood standard rose, giving more prominence to the Callicarpa, and addition of Japanese anemone and Verbena bonariensis by the house. The Hammamelis and Cercis canadensis ‘Forest Pansy’ are displaying fabulous autumn colours and will provide bright winter blooms.

My client also helped me plant muscari and Iris reticulata at the front of the house, and crocuses around the borders. Fritillaria meleagris were planted in the lawn, as they prefer the shelter and support of grass. Finally a selection of burgundy, pink, orange and apricot tulips were grouped in contrasting containers.

Watch this space for spring updates.
