Penge Planting Scheme

Planting two narrow borders for year round low maintenance colour and interest - watch this space for updates.

I chose, purchased, delivered the plants for this local scheme. Some of the larger shrubs were already in situ, including the bamboo, choisiya, photinia and ligustrum.

Plants from Croxted Road Garden Centre are: Helleborus ‘Winter Bells’, Cornus alba ‘Elegantissima’, Heuchera ‘Lime Marmalade’, Hydrangea Petiolaris, Cotinus ‘Grace’, Hydrangea paniculata ‘Limelight’, Chaelonomes Japonica Red, Cornus sanguinea ‘Midwinter Fire’, Convulvulus cneonum; From Crocus: Fuschia ‘Delta Sarah’, and from David Austin, Rose ‘Graham Thomas’.

Plus Alliums, narcissi and red and dark purple tulip bulbs were planted.

The borders were mainly clay subsoil and chunks of builders’ sand, so a lot of digging and compost was required. My clients supplied Sylvan Growing Medium, which was very good quality, quite fibrous, and also organic and sustainable.
